Karen Malec is the President and Co-Founder of the Coalition on Abortion/Breast Cancer. She has written articles and regularly speaks on the links between abortion and breast cancer and has testified before various state legislatures.

Despite the fact that most cancer-fighting organizations either ignore, or deny the link between abortion and a woman’s likelihood of developing breast cancer, the evidence for such a link is credible and overwhelming. In fact, many of these same organizations recommend that a woman carry her first pregnancy to term and breast feed the baby to mature the cells that would be susceptible to cancer. Further studies show that even after an abortion, carrying the next baby to term and breast feeding will minimize the increased cancer risk due to the abortion alone.

Even the National Cancer Institute, part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) which is funded by taxpayer dollars, has denied such a link, citing only a few of the available studies—the ones that show no link—while a majority of studies available showed a definite likelihood of breast cancer after an abortion.

The Susan G. Komen for the Cure, which raises millions of dollars to fight breast cancer, briefly chose to stop sending funds to Planned Parenthood in part because of the link between abortion and breast cancer. When they did so, their rate of donations nearly doubled immediately.

But Planned Parenthood rallied support from the media and prominent Democratic lawmakers to decry the loss of “pregnancy care” including mammograms (which Planned Parenthood does not provide), and to propose an end to donations to Komen. Eventually Komen caved in, and recently announced plans to support 17 Planned Parenthood affiliates, even though PP is the nation’s largest abortion provider, which already receives millions of taxpayer dollars.

Karen recommends contacting Congress to investigate the National Cancer Institute, and especially its head, Dr. Harold Varmus, for refusing to include the credible evidence for the link between abortion and breast cancer, instead continuing to claim that there is no link. Komen for the Cure can also be contacted to let your views be known about their decision to resume support for Planned Parenthood.
