Robert Romano is the senior editor with Americans for Limited Government. ALG takes a non-partisan approach to the threats posed by an ever expanding government to our basic freedoms and works to both expose and prevent the continued expansion of government.

Jim noted that there are reports that allies of Barack Obama are urging him to bypass Congress and expand his executive authority to change the law through decree. Robert cited President Obama’s “pretending” of a congressional recess into existence to make appointments to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and the National Labor Relations Board in opposition to Congress when Congress hadn’t gone into recess. The there was the issue of the Justice Department that took on the role of a court when they announced that the Defense of Marriage Act is unconstitutional.

Nothing within the Constitution allows for such activity. The president can sign a law or veto a law but under the concept of the separation of powers, only Congress can make laws.

This Crosstalk looks at numerous pieces of legislation and how they may be affected by government “overreach” including The Dream Act, The Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) and the Clean Water Act.

Robert also comments on the billions of American dollars directed for bailouts of Europe, why Congress isn’t standing up to the president, Eric Holder’s investigation into national security leaks, Obama’s comment that government jobs aren’t expanding fast enough, the sales limitations on soda pop/popcorn servings, plus more.
