What do people mean when they turn words like “church” and “preach” into pejoratives and describe something as “churchy” or “preachy”? Why is there such scorn for past traditions that communicate respect for our holy God? Perhaps this attitude was best described by Vic when he pointed to the casual nature of many Christians and churches today. He described it as an affliction that has “…turned the church into a bunch of spoiled rotten people who’ve been over-blessed, over-stuffed, over-fed on pablum and have never put the roots that God has given them into the soil.”

Have you ever given thought to the spiritual “temperature” of your church or even your own walk with Christ? This “temperature” is best set by knowing how to hear the still, small voice of the Holy Spirit even amidst the throngs of alternative voices that come from within or those voices from the world that attempt to change us.

America appears to be listening more and more to alternative voices and the result is that casual seems to be the formula today that often drives how we “do church”. Is all of this a sign that America is losing its definition of what church is or perhaps who God really is? Find out how listeners responded to these concerns on this year-end edition of Crosstalk.
