Jahi McMath is a youngster who went into Children’s Hospital in Oakland, California, on December 9th to have a tonsillectomy to help her with sleep apnea. Before the surgery she was very fearful and told her mother that something bad was going to happen.

Looking back, this fear appeared prophetic because when they woke her up from the surgery she began to hemorrhage. Jahi went into cardiac arrest and three days later the doctors told her mother that Jahi is brain dead and that they were removing her from life support. Her family won a last minute extension on a restraining order preventing the hospital from removing Jahi’s ventilator

A County Superior Court Judge has given the family until 5pm, on January 7th to appeal to a higher court to find another facility willing to take care of her. There is one available but Jahi will need a tracheotomy and a feeding tube so she can be safely transported to New York where the other facility is located. Unfortunately, according to media accounts, Children’s Hospital will not allow surgery to be performed on what they term to be a dead body.
