Sam Rohrer is president of Pennsylvania Pastors Network and American Pastors Network. He is a former businessman and former Pennsylvania State Representative. He also formerly ran for the office of Governor in Pennsylvania.

A 25 year old black man named Freddie Gray died this month after sustaining serious injuries while in police custody. Riots, mayhem, looting, rock throwing and general chaos ensued after his funeral in Baltimore. Schools were shut down, thousands of police officers and National Guard troops have been on duty. Even Major League Baseball has been affected as today’s game between the Orioles and the White Sox was set to be played with no fans in attendance as they have been locked out.

Sam described the activities in Baltimore as lawlessness and rebellion to authority; the natural result of a culture that throws off the restraints that God places upon them (God’s law) while also throwing off principles of integrity, responsibility and protection of the property of others.

Sam also noted that there are individuals who are using incidents such as the Freddie Gray incident as justification for behaving in a lawless way. On the other hand he credited black pastors who were standing between the gangs and the row of police officers, communicating and exercising responsibility and proper leadership in asking those who would commit mayhem to stop.

At the end of the day, Sam believes it’s not the color of the skin that divides, it’s our position relative to God. Do we fear Him or do we say that we don’t care who God is and we’ll do whatever we want?

This edition of Crosstalk continues by looking at controversial statements made by Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake, the response from President Obama and reiterates the ultimate solution that can keep this from happening again.
