Sadly, there are many churches and youth groups that are going with the flow of the culture today.  They don’t want to do or say anything that could possibly offend anyone.  Instead, the name of the game is numbers.  In other words, how big can we make the church or youth group.  In order to accomplish that, we wrack our brains trying to come up with the latest gimmick or newest activity to draw people/youngsters in.  This is often done without regard to giving serious thought to the necessity of building a true, solid, biblical foundation in the lives of those to whom we minister.

This isn’t to say that activities are wrong.  We must ask ourselves where we’re putting our emphasis.  Is it on the cool, fun things to do, or is it spiritual maturity?

Rich Christiano tackles this issue in a powerful new film.  Rich is a film writer, director, producer and distributor.  He’s written, directed and produced such films as The Appointment, Time Changer, Unidentified, The Secrets of Jonathan Sperry and A Matter of Faith.  He joined Jim to discuss his latest film, Play the Flute.

Rich got the idea for the film back in 2015 when he asked himself, ‘What is a Christian?’  The first thing that came to his mind was this: A Christian is someone who is serious about the Lord.  From there he got the idea about doing a movie about a youth pastor who takes over an indifferent youth group to try and motivate them to read the Word of God and get serious about the Lord.

Rich has never been more excited about a film that he’s done so he’s hoping the Lord will use this project to motivate viewers to become serious and begin reading the Word of God.

Jim plays excerpts from the film and has Rich present his comments.  From that you’ll begin to see why he’s so excited about it and the potential impact it can have upon those who view it.
