Today in our city of Milwaukee, they are laying to rest Police Officer Peter Jerving who last Tuesday, February 7th, was shot and killed in the line of duty while attempting to arrest a robbery suspect. It’s reported the subject had been sentenced to probation for two hit-and-run crashes the day before.

Last Monday, February 6th, Police Officer Sean Sluganski was shot and killed while responding to a domestic situation in McKeesport, PA.

Also this year on January 31st, Police Officer Gonzalo Carrasco of the Selma Police Department in Selma, CA was shot and killed. He was stopped by a homeowner who stated that a man was on her property. This man, who was a felon on probation, fired several shots striking Officer Carrasco and taking his life.

On January 13th, Deputy Sheriff Darnell Calhoun of the Riverside County California Sheriff’s Department was shot and killed while responding to a domestic violence call.

On January 2nd, Chief of Police of Brackenridge Borough, PA Justin McIntire was shot and killed during a foot pursuit of a wanted subject.

Many other officers have been shot including a double shooting just recently in Maryland. Violence against police officers is on the increase. What is causing this? Is there anything that can be done?
