Karen Schroeder is the president of Advocates for Academic Freedom, a member of Wisconsin’s Educational Communications Board, an experienced public school teacher and an educational consultant.

‘Common Core’ standards are federally shaped education standards that tell every teacher what they must teach in the classroom.

What’s wrong with having a universal education standard? Karen noted that common core standards are vague and can be manipulated. They fail to focus on knowledge acquisition and skill development and instead focus on changing attitudes and belief systems. In addition, once standards are set at the federal level, it’s impossible to change them at the local level.

What is the history behind this? Are there state and federal sovereignty ramifications? Will private and home school textbooks have to follow in line with commom core standards? Get the answers when you review this Crosstalk broadcast.
