Vic presented two news items for listener input:

Eugene, Oregon, Common Council officials have voted down a proposal to say the Pledge of Allegiance before each council meeting. Later they did pass a compromise that allows the Pledge to be voluntarily recited at four council meetings; one at the meeting closest to the 4th of July, Veterans Day, Memorial Day and Flag Day.

Mayor Kitty Piercy called the Pledge, “divisive”; council Vice President George Brown said the Pledge has no place at city hall and councilwoman Betty Taylor compared the reciting of the Pledge to the reading of the Communist Manifesto.

The second news item dealt with the Veterans Administration. They are censoring the mention of God at funerals for veterans and are either requiring families to submit prayer for approval to the government or not allowing families to have the option of prayer at all.
