What Makes God Laugh?

By Jim Schneider, Executive Director, VCY America

“Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing? The kings of the earth set themselves,
and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying, Let us break
their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us. He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the
LORD shall have them in derision.”
(Psalm 2:1-4)

Mankind boasts greatly in his knowledge, in his might, in his wisdom, and in his independence from
God. Man thinks he’s got the problems solved. Society says “we don’t need God” all we have to do is
“just follow the science.” God laughs.

Not only does our society deny a need for God but they also deliberately go out of their way to rage
against Him and to blaspheme His name. It was an outrage during the recent Christmas season when the
Satanic Temple put on display in the Illinois State Capitol a “baby Baphomet,” a demonic looking,
swaddling baby goat in mockery of the Christ child and mocking Christians. Do they think that
somehow their mockery will thwart God’s plan or knock Him off the throne? God laughs.

In a continued effort to mock God, the Satanic Temple will host “SatanCon” February 11-13, 2022 in
Scottsdale, AZ as a means of getting back at the community for not allowing the organization to give an
invocation before a city council meeting. Speaking at this event will be the co-founder of the Satanic
Temple, Lucien Greaves. Will this somehow tarnish God’s image? As the heathen rage, God laughs.

On Christmas Day, 2021 NASA’s new James Webb Telescope was launched from Europe’s Spaceport.
According to NASA, “Webb will directly observe a part of space and time never seen before. Webb will
gaze into the epoch when the very first stars and galaxies formed, over 13.5 billion years ago.” They
also state that “Scientists will use Webb to study planets and other bodies in our solar system to
determine their origin and evolution.” In addition Webb will “observe exoplanets located in their stars’
habitable zones, the regions where a planet could harbor liquid water on its surface, and can determine
if and where signatures of habitability may be present.” (Nasa.gov) Yes, this telescope will look for not
only the origins of the universe, but finding life beyond the earth. NASA has even hired a priest to
assess how the major religions of the world would react to news that life exists outside our own world.
(NASA could save much money looking for the origin of the universe simply by reading Genesis 1.)
God laughs.

World leaders falsely predict we’re headed to global disaster with global climate change. Extreme
weather will destroy the earth, swallow up islands, destroy the coasts, and remove all ice from the
Arctic. God laughs. He’s already told us in His Word, “While the earth remaineth, seedtime and
harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.”
(Genesis 8:22)

Man believes he has the upper hand on COVID-19, the solution to stop the pandemic. The Presidential Executive Order went out January 20, 2021 to just wear a mask for 100 days to “flatten the curve” and
all will be well. We’ve heard the changing rhetoric: “Masks do not work.” “Masks do work.” “Masks
are voluntary.” “Masks are mandatory.” “We must practice social distancing to stop the virus.” “We will
never mandate a vaccine.” “Vaccines are mandated for companies who employ over 100.” “Shots are
required for all military personnel.” The President stated, “You’re not going to get COVID if you have
these vaccinations.” He also later stated, “This is a simple, basic proposition: If you’re vaccinated, you’re not going to be hospitalized, you’re not going to be in an ICU unit, and you’re not going to die.”
As man tries to go it alone, God laughs.

A push toward a Great Reset is being promoted by United Nations groups and governments around the
world. They advocate putting all humankind on an equal playing field by government control of
finances, housing, property, etc. We can solve all the world’s problems such as hunger and other
inequities. As a metaphor, man is intent on raising a new Tower of Babel. God laughs.

Christianity is under attack on many fronts. It’s being mocked in the media, mocked by academia, and
mocked by the Hollywood elite. While they believe their mockery and put downs will somehow
eradicate Christianity, God laughs.

“The wicked plotteth against the just, and gnasheth upon him with his teeth. The Lord shall laugh at
him: for he seeth that his day is coming.”
(Psalm 37:12-13)

God is not laughing out of humor, but at the derision of man. Puny little man is shaking his fist at the
Almighty Creator of the universe. Man thinks he knows best and that there is no need for belief in God,
and certainly no need for His intervention in society. Certainly there is a day of judgment coming and
man’s defiance of God will occur no more.

“Thou therefore, O LORD God of hosts, the God of Israel, awake to visit all the heathen: be not
merciful to any wicked transgressors. Selah. They return at evening: they make a noise like a dog, and
go round about the city. Behold, they belch out with their mouth: swords are in their lips: for who, say
they, doth hear? But thou, O LORD, shalt laugh at them; thou shalt have all the heathen in derision.”

(Psalm 59:5-8)

What makes God laugh? When mankind in his arrogance rages against God, when he seeks to make
laws in an attempt to somehow nullify His Word, when he is awash in his own arrogance, when he
shakes his fist at God, when he denies any dependence on God, when he falsely believes answers to life
lie within himself, and when He thinks himself above God.

The only course of action befitting every man, woman, and child is to bow the knee, repent of sin and
turn to God before it is too late!

“Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a nae which is above every name: That at
the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the
earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”

(Philippians 2:8-11)

“Know therefore this day, and consider it in thine heart, that the LORD he is God in heaven above, and
upon the earth beneath: there is none else.”
(Deuteronomy 4:39)
