Conforming to Christ

Like father like son. You’ve heard that phrase applied to earthly fathers and sons, but it has a spiritual application as well.

When Jesus was challenged over the issue of paying taxes He asked for a coin. He then asked whose image was on the coin. The word image means a likeness, similarity or resemblance to the real thing. It is the same word used several times in the New Testament to describe God’s purpose for our lives, when he says we are to be conformed to the image of Jesus Christ.

When we are faced with a decision over how to spend our time, we should remember the ultimate goal of this life is not our own personal comfort but developing the character of Christ. We want to become like our heavenly Father by showing love to others and serving them.

Is there some way you could do that right now, right where you are? Activities which conform us to the image of Christ are the ones that redeem the time.
