Hearing Review on New Vaccination Rules

The Wisconsin Department of Health has implemented a new rule that requires that students in the twelfth grade receive a second dose of the vaccine that allegedly protects against meningitis and also requires that certain medical professionals verify that a student has had chickenpox, rather than accept the parent’s report as an exception to the vaccine requirement.  In response, the legislature’s Joint Committee for Review of Administrative Rules is holding a hearing soon to consider suspending both provisions of the rule.

The new vaccine requirement seems to be an overreach by the department. In addition, they are saying they now won’t accept a parent’s word. Fortunately, this committee is paying attention. The hearing will be held Tuesday, March seventh. Info on the committee is available at legis.wisconsin.gov if parents want to let committee members know their opinion.
